11/02/2005 - First Shots

Emma had her first round of vaccinations today. Poor baby. I had to work, so Marie went it alone. Emma was already a little bit sick with a stuffed up nose I brought home. Additionally, we learned that she has a case of thrush. This is a yeast infection in the mouth, contracted from breast feeding. It's pretty common, and she didn't seem to be bothered by it. Nonetheless, we have some crappy tasting medicine for it, and it should clear out in no time. They also gave Marie an aspirator for her nose. If you've never seen one, it is like a mini turkey baster, with which you suck the mucus out of her nose. She REALLY likes that. The shots seemed to have gone well. My folks came up to be with her and Marie. By all reports Mom and baby were both wiped out. However, Emma didn't show any signs of being ill from the shots. She had a band aid on each thigh and looked pathetic when I got home, but was otherwise fine. She weighed in at almost 13 lbs. and over 22 inches long. That puts her in the 75th percentile for height and weight. Her head circumference was in the 90th. I wonder who she gets that from? Let's hope it's brains in her case! Tom
